Description
We are offering for your consideration an exquisite, Southington Silver plated and cobalt glass condiment server that dates around 1890. The piece is marked, “Quadruple Plate” and is pattern number, “1881.” The company was founded in Connecticut and became part of the International Silver Company using their own hallmark. The silver plated basket measures 5.50 inches long, 5 inches wide and seven inches to the top of the handle. Three chirping birds sitting on a leafy and flowered branch have been applied to two sides. A stylized flower hangs from either side of the handle. The piece rests upon four feet. The cobalt blue glass insert is enameled with a sea scene on the sides. Coral, fish and sea grass decorate the piece. The base is in GREAT ESTATE CONDITION. There is some silver wear but nothing that would not be expected with the pieces age. The cobalt enameled glass has gold wear around the rim, and the two short sides due to the glass being placed in and out of the base.There are also a small chip on the side and two flea bites. Again, nothing that would not be expected due to the age and use of the piece.
