Replica Green Bowl COMMANDERIE du BONTEMPS de MEDOC et des GRAVES 24 June 2000
The COMMANDERIE du BONTEMPS de MEDOC et des GRAVES is one of the oldest and largest wine brotherhoods in France. June 24, 2000 marks the merger the Commanderie du Bontemps de Medoc et des Graves and Commanderie du Bontemps de Sauternes et Barsac which form a united entity on the left bank of the Garonne and Gironde. The "bontemps," a large wooden bowl, is an object which is essential to the wine producer for beating the eggs used for fining and clarifying the wine. It has also been the emblem of the Order and serves as the model for the commander's headdress: wine colored velvet hat with white organdie evoking the wood reddened by a young wine and the beaten egg white. In 2000, the Commanderie celebrated its 50th anniversary. The green ceramic bowl is a replica of the emblem.
