    Description

    RARE!-RARE! Find! This offering is for a very rare toothpick holder by the Pairpoint Manufacturing Company. It features a cherub or putti riding on the back of a turtle or tortoise and holding reins that go to the turtles mouth. This antique has several distinctive markings on the underside. One of the front feet of the turtle is stamped with a “P” and the P is enclosed in a square. The other front foot is stamped with the number 1933 which may be the catalogue number. Pairpoint MFG CO. is also printed on the bottom rim of the turtle. You will also find the following on the other side of the rim— “Quadruple Plate”. This is an amazing piece of American manufacturing history. This beautiful item can be viewed in the circa 1894 catalogue. All printing must be viewed with a magnifying glass.
