Size:21/32" The Precision Twist SS400 taper length, four flute core drill is a
round shank drill bit made of HSS with an uncoated, bright finish, and is used
only for enlarging an existing hole. It is recommended not to increase the
hole size more than twice the size of the existing hole. There is no cutting
point or means of starting a hole. The shank diameter is the same as the drill
size. It was designed for enlarging holes into a wide variety of metals with
best performance in steel, free machining stainless steel, cast iron, and
titanium. The uncoated finish helps increase chip flow in soft materials.
Spiral flutes act as a passageway for chip extraction from the hole and for
coolant to enter the hole. Right-hand twist brings chips up and away from the
cutting edge. Four flutes enhance the finish of the hole and help ensure the
bit cuts evenly. Taper length drill bits derive their name from having the
same flute length as taper shank drill bits. Sometimes, these are called long
Jobber drill bits. Drilling, or hole making, is the most common metalworking
operation in the world. Twist drill bits are the most common type of drill bit
used. Twist drill bits are commonly used to drill holes with hand-operated
drills, standalone drill presses, or lathes. The flutes of the drill bit act a
