Early 19th C Derby Silver Co Silver Plate Gravy Boat and Underplate Set
Beautiful quadruple silverplate gravy boat and underplate set manufactured by the Derby Silver Co. in the late 18th/early 19th century. Both piece have scalloped foliate edges. The tray has a large lily on each end of the tray, and the gravy boat has a large lily on each side of the gravy boat.
Both pieces are marked:  Derby Silver Co, Quadruple Plate, B 5107
Dimensions:
Tray:  8 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 8/10" (lwh)
Gravy Boat:  8 1/2" x 4" x 5 1/2" (lwh)
Condition:
Excellent pre-owned condition with light surface scratches to both pieces.  There are no dents on the gravy boat.  There are two dents to top flat surface of the undertray which are the size of a indent from a fork tine.  There is also one small shallow indent to the side of the tray, approximately 1/4" in length.
There is some light tarnish on this set.  Please let me know if you would like me to polish this before shipping it to you; I would be happy to do so.
Overall, this is a very beautiful set considering its age.

Information on the Derby Silver Co:
The Derby Silver Company was founded in 1872 and began operations on Shelton’s Canal Street one year later. The company soon outgrew its quarters and in 1877 constructed a larger building, which still stands on Bridge Street,
Shelton
, near the Housatonic River, overlooking Derby.
A number of additions were completed in subsequent years. The original Canal Street building was razed when the railroad was built through Shelton in 1888.
In 1898, the plant merged with the International Silver Company, a consortium of Connecticut silver companies. At that time the Derby Silver Company works was known as Factory B. Thus, as a rule of thumb, items with the Derby Silver Company logo most likely date from the 19th century, while items with the International Silver Company logo, either Derby or Factory B, are from the 20th.  A
victim of the Depression, the plant closed in 1933.
