    Description

    This is a very Rare and unusual Porcelain Sign from Italy. It is dated 1927, I bought it in 2009 traveling around the antique shops in Italy, (it is a rare and strange find). When I had the language translated I found it very interesting. I am told prostitution was legal around that time (Ord. # N'871) buy Mussolini, I can translate it now. TARIFFARIO (fee schedule), PRESTAZION (performance), DELLA (of the), CASA (house), SEMPLICE (simple), DOPPIA (double), 1/4 D'ORA (15 minutes), 1/2 ORA, (3 minutes), 1 ORA (1hour), ASCIUGAMANO E SAPONE (includes towels & soap), Ord. N'871, (ordinance), ANNO (the year) 1927, (VI') VERONA, ITALY. E.F. ?. who would stay at a hotel for 15, 30, minutes or an hour ?. I do not want to do much explaining, so one can read between the lines. This sign sounds to me like it was definitely a house of Ill repute?, the ladies of the night?, or house of prostitution. The sign measures 17 3/4" tall x 9 3/4" wide and made of heavy metal about 2 lbs 5 oz. I tried to research it and could only find one other sign in very poor condition.  I attached the antique stores business card from 2009. Great conversation piece.
